On Thursday, November 10th the children in our nutrition program experienced another first. Their first Thanksgiving :: a day to be grateful! Complete with all the trimmings :: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie and more!
The idea started small — Thanksgiving is one of Meganβs favorite holidays, yes for the food, but more for the spirt of gratitude that it brings. As October made itβs way toward November, she started selecting memory verses that praised God with heart full of thanks and thinking about what more we could do.
Allison, one of our fabulous BOD members, was scheduled to come down in early November and offered to bring some of the items that are difficult to find here in Nica for our personal Thanksgiving and thatβs when the idea really flourished — what if we made a full Thanksgiving dinner for the kids? What if we went around the table, each sharing something weβre thankful for?
Throughout the week, during lunch, we worked on our thankfulness chains that decorated the church for our feast. Each child wrote or drew three things that they were thankful for and added it to the chain.
And we ate. And tried new foods. And shared the many things we have to be thankful for. Some of the answers we got were: my mom, my dad, my family, my chicken, my dog, food to eat, Wayne & Megan, Pastor Rogelio & Thelma, the sun, the cool breeze, playing soccer, my teacher and the lists went on and on . . .
2 Corinthians 9:11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
